The Best Small Businesses to Support During COVID-19

i was part of a call with a corporate executive last week, and she mentioned “no one’s shopping except millennials and it’s for loungewear.” i’m not sure if she’s right, but i do know that those of us earning a salary right now have a responsibility.

there are millions of small businesses around the country that need our help. unless you want to live in a world with only amazon and big box stores, we have to support them through this pandemic.

i’ve put together a list of the ten best small businesses to support during covid-19. these are places that I would/have shopped before the pandemic and want to show special love and attention during this difficult time. most are women and minority owned and can be especially vulnerable right now.

The Best Small Businesses to Support During COVID-19

Mahogany Books

black owned bookstores are rare. sadly, ever since caribou books closed, we’ve had a gap in the DMV area. mahogany books is filling this void and hosting amazing book talks and community events.

they have some amazing bundles on sale that are perfect for parents of young readers.

Wild Heart Shop

i’m a sucker for a good brass bangle. actually, i’m a sucker for a good brass bangle at a local sundry. for this reason, wild heart shop in richmond makes me all warm and fuzzy inside. where else can you grab a dream catcher, jumpsuit and statement earrings? seriously, issa vibe.

I’m planning to order some of their smell goods since i’m literally burning through candles while self isolating. enjoy 15% off site wide with code ENJOY 15.

Boketto Wellness

i’m unashamedly biased with recommending boketto wellness. this modern apothecary is home to my acupuncturist and naturopathic doctor. both jelena and dr. cope have played a big role in how i see health and wellness.

not only is boketto home to wellness services, but you can also grab a variety of goods from small businesses around the world. i love this all natural nucifera balm for my hands, feet and face.

Fanm Djanm

i ordered my first head wrap from fanm djanm when i was going through chemo. the quality, color and style were amazing, and i had to get my hands on one during quarantine. i mean it’s been two months since i had a haircut, and sis still needs to be cute.

i’m wearing the dakar double-sided headband in this post, but also grabbed the hot moss headwrap. don’t worry if they’re sold out. fanm djanm does a great job replenishing their stock so keep checking back in.

enjoy 10-20% off all orders.

you know those layered necklace pictures that you swoon over when browsing pinterest? well, mejuri’s got you covered. the company specializes in high quality gold vermeil jewelry with a classic twist. their pieces are minimal and chic.
