My Favorite Spring + Summer Capsule Wardrobe Pieces

My Favorite Spring + Summer Capsule Wardrobe Pieces

it may seem funny to write about creating a capsule wardrobe when most of us are sheltering in place. however, i mentioned in this post how important it is to still get dressed. for me, it’s an act of self-care.

in march, i transitioned my closet from winter to spring. there were several pieces that went to the fashion cemetery — items that i no longer wear or were in bad shape. after clearing those out, i started to hunt for my favorite spring and summer capsule wardrobe pieces.

Silk Cami

the first thing that i wanted was another silk cami. i’ve worn my black one from club monaco to death. i’m so happy that i splurged on the better quality option because it’s still holding up so well. i love how camis are great layering pieces, but also look good alone with necklaces or large earrings.

unfortunately, the leopard one that i grabbed from shop bop is sold out, but no worries. i’ve linked similar ones below. i’m wearing it as i write this with a pair of white culottes, and it makes me feel so chic. even if i’m also wearing a pair of slippers lol.

Blazer

i realllllly wanted to jump into the oversized blazer trend, but i’m almost six feet tall. baggy clothes make me look like a linebacker. please don’t argue with me — this is a fact.

here’s a piece of advice: you can make any trend work for your size and body type. it’s all about how you rock it. asos came thru with a linen double-breasted blazer that’s clutch. it’s a little oversized, but not too much so it’s timeless. i can’t wait to wear it to brunch when outside finally opens back up!

Bodysuit

my new blazer would be perfect with a bodysuit, and i grabbed a new one from aritzia. shout out to them for making such perfect basics. now i want this bodysuit in every single color. lawd help me!

here’s a link to the one that i’m wearing in my youtube video. i’ve included some others below. one piece of advice  —  invest in a thong option so you can skip the VPL.

Jeans

thanks to this pandemic and working from home, i’ve gained a few pounds. it’s likely not coming off anytime soon, so i wanted to invest in a new pair of jeans. i went for a pair of distressed ones from shopbop since i love wearing a dressy top with an unexpected bottom like ripped denim.

this pair doesn’t have any stretch in them, but i still love the way they fit. the length is great and distressing hits at all the right spots. i’ll definitely be checking out one teaspoon again in the fall.

Joggers

i’ve noticed lots of cute loungewear while folks are sheltering in place, and i’m totally into it. who doesn’t want to be cute and comfortable? i wanted a pair of joggers that could check both boxes.

this pair from asos is great because they match my new aritzia tank almost perfectly and are long enough without being part of the “tall” collection.

White Tee

the last piece that i grabbed is definitely nothing revolutionary. it’s this white shirt that i’ve been eying by anine bing for a minute. i grabbed it because of the slight distressing at the collar that seemed simple yet edgy — a basic with a twist.

while this one was definitely overpriced, a basic white tee can get you pretty far in your capsule wardrobe. if it’s well made, it’ll stand the test of time and looks great paired with almost anything. from a skirt to denim to under a blazer, a good white tee is clutch.
