Must Have Timeless Investment Pieces

i’m a big believer that we dress the way we feel. even more importantly, we can create a feeling from the way we adorn ourselves. this belief is why i got dressed every day of the lockdown, i get dressed every day working from home and i get excited to attend special events. simply put, i love the way a good slay makes me feel.

my love for fashion has encouraged me to invest in timeless pieces. as a capsule wardrobe lover, i firmly believe in the power of good quality basics as our primary style pillar. we often feel uncomfortable with our daily style because we lack the foundational building blocks in our closets.

there are key pieces that complete a feminine wardrobe no matter your individual style. my pro tip is to invest in those pieces while saving on the trendier items. once you have your investment pieces down, then the simplest outfits can look chic.

Fine Jewelry

two years ago, i decided to get serious about my fine jewelry collection. i was tired of collecting handbags and shoes without focusing on items that could hold their value or appreciate. plus, all queens need to be adorned with jewels darling! since that time, my fiancée has given me a david yurman ring and cartier just en clou bracelet.

i also invested in a dainty number seven pendant with a chain to celebrate our seventh anniversary. while i love fine jewelry, i gladly mix those pieces with my gold plated and brass jewelry.

Black Blazer

as an attorney, i’ve always been into suits. however, i didn’t realize that there’s a difference between suiting and a good blazer. obviously, you can mix and match pieces from a suit, but a blazer can be an incredibly versatile piece on its own. it’s sooooo worth the investment. i literally wear my black saint laurent blazer all four seasons and pair it with everything from dresses to jeans. long gone are the days when blazers are only for work.

Classic Handbag

nothing can replace a classic handbag. whether you love totes, top handle or crossbody styles, it’s worth the investment. obviously, i love luxury bags, but there’s no need to break the bank. find a quality bag at a price point that works for you. as a matter of fact, i highly encourage folks to invest in one great bag over several mediocre ones. for example, if we add up all the bags that we’ve purchased from tj maxx and marshall’s over the years, then these cheaper low-quality purchases could’ve amounted to one well-made handbag. save your coins sis and choose quality over quantity.

Little Black Dress

everyone knows about the little black dress or LBD. however, what we don’t appreciate is its versatility. i got my first black slip dress about five years ago and fell in love. i wore graphic tees under it and dropped my leather jacket over it. it was literally the hardest working piece in my wardrobe.

a black dress is perfect for date night with heels or a relaxing weekend with sneakers. after wearing my first one to shreds, i finally invested in the silk version from joie that i’m wearing in this post. it feels like heaven, and one of my best investment pieces. no matter the style of dress you love, invest in one great LBD. it’s worth it!

White Button Up

i’ve grown to appreciate a good white button up shirt. it’s cute with denim or a black slip skirt and can also be a great layering piece in cooler temperatures. i have two that i absolutely adore. the first is from versace and has gold buttons which give it an extra flair. i also invested in an oversized one from mango that gives a little edge. i can’t wait to wear it with boots, black shorts and my leather jacket this fall. plus, it’s a great piece for work especially worn with a colorful scarf.

have fun with your investment white button up, and feel free to go for a more unique style if that’s your jam!

a blazer, handbag, LBD and white button up are the investment pieces that i would prioritize when spending. they’re timeless pieces that function as the foundation of any great wardrobe. plus, they pack lots of versatility and can be worn from work to weekend.
