i’m a native floridian and love my home state, despite its trash politics. since january, i’ve spent time in the miami area, orlando, tampa and most recently clearwater beach for my sister’s birthday. it was a vibe.
first, lemme say that clearwater is located on the gulf side of the state which has some differences from the atlantic coast. the water is calmer and the beaches are known for being more family friendly. also, it’s less nightlife than cities in the southeast like miami and palm beach.
before packing your bags to head to clearwater, determine the kind of experience you want to have. if you’re traveling with your family and kids, then you’ll feel right at home. if you’re looking for the turn up, then be prepared to drive to tampa or ybor city about 30-45 minutes away.
the best part of our trip was the boat ride which i renamed “thots on a yacht.” check out our short film capturing the entire experience here lol.
we spent about four hours on the water enjoying a ride through the gulf. the captain even posted us up on an excluded sandbar. the boat was clean and comfortably fit up to eight people. we booked it through get my boat and the price was about $500 with all the fees included. i’ve also used boatsetter in the past, but the response time can be a bit longer.
if you’re on a budget, then clearwater will run you much less than a trip to miami. flights into the closest airport, tampa international, tend to be cheaper and so are accommodations. we booked an airbnb that was super comfortable and less than ten minutes from the beach. it would be perfect for families since it was stocked with chairs, coolers, beach towels and toys.
