i couldn’t focus, my body ached, and i’d been staring at a blank page for almost two hours. welcome to the world of hormone therapy.
about two weeks ago, i started taking two drugs to stop my body from producing estrogen and progesterone. together, the side effects pretty much suck. they can cause mood swings, hot flashes, night sweats, and joint pain. the second day after my shot, i felt like i had the flu.

not only did my body ache, and i was super tired, but i couldn’t focus. no matter what i did — write things down, take breaks, change my work environment — nothing worked. i was in the middle of a super important assignment and nothing would come out.
instead of forcing myself to be productive, i did something i NEVER do. i rested.
this is major growth for me because settling down and giving myself permission to let go is always a major struggle.

i took a nap during the day, soaked in the bathtub to alleviate my pain, and worked in 45 minute spurts. allowing my body to heal ignited the energy that i needed to focus in short time frames.
also, i invested in my physical wellness by tapping into the healers around me, like my friend dominque at stretch workz dc and my girl april at in his hands spa.
by the end of the week, i actually became more productive by investing in self-care. go figure.

i’m writing this post in boston while sipping a homemade chai tea latte and chatting with friends about a new york times article. i’ve spent three days completely computer free until now and have barely glanced at my work emails. basically, i’m at peek self-care levels and feel super grateful for the reboot.
