after many years, frida kahlo’s clothing is on display in the museo frida kahlo in mexico city. the revolutionary artist’s husband, diego rivera, locked away most of her personal belongings in the bathroom of their mexico city home after her death. the house, la casa de azul (the blue house), was transformed into a museum in 1957 and since 2002 curators have worked to catalog over 300 of frida’s artifacts, including a pair of earrings given to her by pablo picasso. the exhibition explores frida’s clothing as an expression of her socialist and feminist ideals, as well as her ability to mask her debilitating injuries. even her prosthetic was fly.
