vintage shopping in miami

i spent last weekend in florida and had a blast vintage shopping with my granny.  we frolicked around south florida gushing over clothes and shoes at the rabbit hole, c. madeline’s, fly boutique, and angel’s vintage boutique.

the rabbit hole  is a small boutique that we passed a zillion times before noticing the “vintage” sign out front.  don’t let the size or random strip mall location fool you though, it’s fully stocked with an array of goodies.  it’s the first vintage boutique i’ve visited with shoes over a size 8–major win for girls with big feet. the owner was super helpful; i described what i was looking for and she pulled things from the back for me to take a look at.  i got this cute peplum number that brought a single tear to my eye.  sometimes, pretty clothes make me emotional.  price range: $$

c. madeline’s is a huge vintage warehouse that houses everything from furs to vintage pucci and dior.  i was excited to visit after reading the reviews online, but struggled with feeling overwhelmed when i arrived.  imagine racks and racks and racks of clothes and display cases filled from top to bottom with jewelry.   i left after about fifteen minutes, nothing felt special and it was impossible to gather my thoughts.  my brain needs order and simplicity.  price range: $$$-$$$$

next stop was angel’s vintage boutique, a store i travelled to in the pouring ran.  unfortunately, braving hurricane weather was hardly worth it for this matchbox.  the price points and inventory were completely bipolar–a handwritten sign alerted me to a $10 rack housing utter foolishness, while simple midi-dresses were priced at $50 and above.  the clincher came in the form of several faux gucci bags for $200-300 which were displayed alongside a pair of “real” chanel earrings priced at $500.  *insert major side eye* price range: $-$$$

last on my list was fly boutique, a vintage boutique that has two locations in miami.  it definitely has some great finds and the interior decor is to die for–a huge morrocan style bed sits squarely in the middle of the store.  if i wasn’t traveling, then i would have purchased a low coffee table with two pink stools.  i was crushed when i couldn’t fit a bangin red silk jumpsuit over my feet–who has that problem?  major blower.  price range: $$

overall, the stores paled in comparison with spending time with my uber fashionable grandmother.  i can’t think of a woman with more style and grace.
