i would really appreciate stella jean’s spring/summer 2012 collection more if the model was of african descent. it’s plenty of black models who need work and they would provide a bit of authenticity to jean’s pervasive use of african wax print fabric. however, putting the expropriation of african culture aside for just one moment, i must admit that mixing chambray shirts with a-line wax print skirts is every-effing-thing. it’s like j. crew married wax prints.
The colors, the patterns, the shapes—oh, my! Truly exquisite.
But I agree with you that a black model should’ve been used. Those colors really would’ve popped on a model with darker skin. I wish the fashion industry didn’t think under the mindset that “white is always right.”
