london’s on fire after a young-black man is killed by police. during a peaceful protest, a 16-year-old girl was accosted by members of the same police force, fueling a massive rebellion.
rebellions, not riots, are reactions to an oppressive system and unjust social/economic order. they heighten the political contradictions that fester under a society’s surface and serve to propel the masses into resistance. they are not acts of arbitrary violence or property destruction, but are an integral stage in eradicating the hegemonic order. it’s this order that allows young black men to be gunned down by police without impunity.
