1. you wouldn’t want two green rooms in the same house, or two yellow rooms. every room should be a different color. each space should have its own mood.
2. people decorate around a painting or a carpet, but those things change. i look at the space, the feeling of a room, the light, the air. then i start with the fabric. look for the tiny detail–the dab of pink or blue in the pattern. that’s your room color.
3. no room is a still life. it should look like it happened over years.
